A documentary dedicated to Pornhub soon to air on Netflix: discover the teaser!
On March 15, a documentary entitled "Money Shot" will offer an in-depth look at Pornhub, a veritable success story in the world of porn. The film also looks at the dark side of the platform.
Launched in 2007, Pornhub is one of the leaders in the porn world. It is also the symbol of an X-rated era, with its famous tubes distributing content on a massive scale, often free of charge. Netflix has turned its attention to this giant of the porn industry with a documentary that promises to be quite controversial.
Pornhub: a porn giant
Today, some pornstars have become household names, and the world of porn has become mainstream. In 2022, Pornhub ranked fourth among the most visited sites in France, with 417 million visits. Today, it's easy to watch porn footage in just a few clicks from any device with a wifi connection. Money Shot: The Pornhub Story will look back at the rise of the site and the tube phenomenon.
But the question of the distribution of wealth linked to this economic model is also at the heart of the documentary. "This film forces us to question the meaning of sexuality and consent when sites worth billions of dollars thrive on user-generated videos. Who has and who should have the power?" said Suzanne Hillinger, the film's director, in an interview with GQ magazine. We hope this documentary will spark many conversations about sex and consent.
The dark side of Pornhub
The documentary features interviews with actresses and actors, activists and former employees of the porn behemoth. Some of the platform's opponents denounce the harmful effects of free access to porn on society, and the posting of revenge porn online. Freedom fighters also denounce the fact that, like social networks like Facebook, Pornhub sucks in user data.
In 2020, the American newspaper the "New York Times" criticized the platform for broadcasting illegal videos, showing "child abuse and non-consensual violence". At the time, the platform categorically denied this, but removed the videos from unverified users. The case drew the attention of legislators around the world, including France. Parliamentarians are increasingly considering how to prevent minors from accessing porn tubes.
Directed by Suzanne Hillinger, "Pornhub: gros plan sur le géant du sexe" (Pornhub: close-up on the sex giant) looks at how the platform has turned the world of porn upside down, allowing these videos to be distributed far and wide, and making XXL profits from often-exploited sex workers. See you on March 15 on Netflix.
